Congratulations to Pieta Thornton, President of VWCCS, for being named as one of 100 ‘Women of Influence’ – a national award jointly sponsored by the Financial Review and Westpac.

Now in its fifth year, the award recognises the excellence, generosity, and achievements of individual women in their chosen field. Pieta was recognised in the Local and Regional category for the positive impact she has made to the community with her focus on victims and witnesses of crime.

Pieta joins other women nominated this year including Lisa Wilkinson, Clover Moore, Kerryn Phelps, and Natasha Stott Despoja, who have also been recognised for their contributions. Previous overall winners include Ann Sherry AO, CEO of Carnival Australia, and Elizabeth Broderick AO, Sex Discriminator Commissioner (2007-2015).

It is a great testament to the achievements of VWCCS over the past decade and to all the volunteers who have worked  so generously to create such a highly regarded volunteer organisation.
